Це є таємні слова, котрі мовив Ісус живий і котрі записав Дідім Юда Хома. І мовив Він: Той, хто здобуває тлумачення цих слів, не пізнає смерті.

1. Ісус мовив: Нехай той, хто шукає, не припиняє шукати до того часу, допоки не віднайде, і, коли він знайде, він буде приголомшений, і, якщо він приголомшений, він буде здивований, і він буде царювати над усіма.

2. Ісус мовив: Якщо ті, котрі ведуть вас, кажуть вам: Дивіться, царство на небі! – тоді птахи небесні випередять вас. Якщо вони кажуть вам, що воно – у морі, тоді риби випередять вас. Проте царство всередині вас і ззовні вас.

3. Коли ви пізнаєте себе, тоді ви будете упізнані і ви дізнаєтеся, що ви – діти Отця живого. Якщо ж ви не пізнаєте себе, тоді ви у бідності і ви – бідність.

4. Ісус мовив: Стара людина в його дні не тягнутиме запитати мале дитя семи днів про місце життя, і вона буде жити. Позаяк багато перших будуть останніми, і вони стануть одним.

5. Ісус сказав: Пізнай те, що (чи того, хто) перед Ликом твоїм, і те, що приховане є (або той, хто прихований) від тебе, – відкриється тобі. Бо немає нічого таємного, що не стане явним.

6. Учні Його запитали Його; вони сказали Йому: Чи хочеш ти, аби ми постилися, і як нам молитися, давати милостиню й утримуватися в їжі? Ісус сказав: Не брешіть, і те, чого ви ненавидите, не робіть того. Бо усе відкрито перед небом. Позаяк немає нічого таємного, що не буде явним, і немає нічого прихованого, що залишилося б невикритим.

7. Ісус мовив: Блаженний той лев, котрого з’їсть людина, і лев стане людиною. І проклята та людина, котру з’їсть лев, і лев стане людиною.

8. І Він сказав: Людина подібна до мудрого рибалки, який закинув свою сітку у море. Вона витягла її з моря, сповнену малих рибин; серед них цей мудрий рибалка знайшов велику (й) добру рибу. Він викинув усіх малих рибин у море, йому не важко вибрати велику рибу. Той, хто має вуха чути, хай чує!

9. Ісус сказав: Ось, сіяч вийшов, він сповнив твою руку, він кинув (насіння). Але деякі впали на дорогу, прилетіли птахи, видзьобали їх. Інші упали на каміння, й не пустили коріння у землю, і не послали колосся у небо. І інші впали у тернину, вони заглушили сім’я, і черв’як з’їв їх. І інші впали на добру землю і дали добрий плід у небо. Це принесло шістдесят мір на одну і сто двадцять мір на одну.

10. Ісус мовив: Я кинув вогонь у світ, і ось я охороняю його, допоки він не запалає.

11. Ісус мовив: Це небо перейде, і те, що над ним, перейде, і ті, що мертві, не живі, і ті, котрі живі, не помруть.

12. У (ті) дні ви їли мертве, ви робили його живим. Коли ви опинитеся у світі, що робитимете? У цей день ви – одне, ви стали двоє. Коли ж ви станете двоє, що ви робитимете?

13. Учні сказали Ісусові: Ми знаємо, що ти підеш від нас. Хто той, котрий буде більшим над нами? Ісус мовив їм: У тому місці, куди ви прийшли, ви підете до Якова справедливого, через якого виникли небо і земля.

14. Ісус мовив учням своїм: Вподобайте мене, скажіть мені, на кого я схожий. Симон Петро сказав Йому: Ти схожий на янгола справедливого. Матей сказав Йому: Ти схожий на філософа мудрого. Хома сказав Йому: Господи, мої вуста ніяк не в змозі мовити, на кого ти схожий. Ісус мовив: Я не твій господар, позаяк ти випив, ти напився з джерела кипучого, що я зміряв.

Він узяв його, відвів його (і) промовив йому три слова. Коли ж Хома прийшов до своїх товаришів, вони запитали його: Що сказав тобі Ісус? Хома промовив їм: Якщо я скажу вам одне із слів, котрі він промовив мені, ви візьмете каміння, кинете (їх) у мене, вогонь вийде з каміння (й) спалить вас.

15. Ісус мовив: Якщо ви поститеся, ви зародите в собі гріх, (і) якщо ви молитеся, ви будете засуджені, і, якщо ви подаєте милостиню, ви завдасте зло вашому духу. І якщо ви приходите у яку-небудь землю і йдете у селища, якщо вас приймуть, їжте те, що вам виставлять. Тих, що серед них хворі, лікуйте. Позаяк те, що увійде до вуст ваших, не осквернить вас, проте те, що виходить з ваших вуст, це вас осквернить.

16. Ісус мовив: Коли ви побачите того, хто не народжений жінкою, впадіть долиліць (і) почитайте його; він – ваш Отець.

17. Ісус мовив: Можливо люди думають, що я прийшов кинути світ у всесвіт (космос), й не знають вони, що я прийшов кинути на землю розділення, вогонь, меч, війну. Бо п’ятеро буду в домі: троє будуть проти двох і вдвох проти трьох. Батько проти сина і син проти батька; і стоятимуть вони як на одинці.

18. Ісус мовив: Я дам вам те, чого не бачило око, і те, чого не чуло вухо, і те, чого не торкнулася рука, і не, що не увійшло у серце людини.

19. Учні сказали Ісусові: Скажи нам, яким буде наш кінець. Ісус мовив: Чи виявили ви початок, аби шукати кінець? Бо в місці, де початок, там буде кінець. Блаженний є той, хто буде стояти в початку: і він пізнає кінець, і він не скуштує смерті.

20. Ісус мовив: Блаженний є той, хто був до того, як виник.

21. Якщо ви в мене учні (і) якщо слухаєте мої слова, ці каміння служитимуть вам.

22. Бо є у вас п’ять дерев у раю, котрі нерухомі і влітку й у зиму, і їхні листя не опадають. Той, хто пізнає їх, не скуштує смерті.

23. Учні сказали Ісусові: Скажи нам, до чого подібне царство небесне. Він мовив їм: Воно подібне до зернятка гірчичного, найменшому серед усього насіння. Коли ж воно падає на оброблену землю, воно велике гілля (і) стає укриттям для птахів небесних.

24. Марія сказала Ісусові: На кого подібні твої учні? Він мовив: Вони подібні до дітей малих, котрі розташувалися на полі, що їм не належить. Коли прийдуть господарі поля, вони скажуть: Залиште нам наше поле. Вони оголюються перед ними, аби залишити це їм і дати їм їхнє поле.

25. Тому я мовлю: Якщо господар хати знає, що приходить злодій, він не спатиме до тих пір, допоки він не прийде, і він не дозволить йому потрапити у його дім царства його, щоби винести його речі. Ви ж не засинаєте перед світом, тож затягніть пасками чресла ваші з більшою силою, аби розбійники не знайшли шляхи пройти до вас. Позаяк потрібне, що ви шукаєте, буде знайдене.

26. Хай би була між вами знаюча людина! Коли плід дозрів, він прийшов поспіхом, – його серп у руці його, – (і) він зібрав його. Той, хто має вуха, хай почує!

27. Ісус побачив немовлят, котрі ссали молоко. Він сказав учням своїм: Ці немовлята, які смокчуть молоко, подібні до тих, що входять у царство. Вони сказали йому: Що ж, якщо ми – немовлята, ми увійдемо у царство? Ісус мовив їм: Коли ви зробите двох одним, і коли ви зробите внутрішній бік як зовнішній бік, і зовнішній бік як внутрішній бік, і верхній бік як нижній бік, і коли ви зробите чоловіка і жінку одним, щоби чоловік не був чоловіком і жінка не була жінкою, коли ви зробите очі замість ока, і руку замість руки, і ногу замість ніг, образ замість образа, – тоді ви увійдете у [царство].

28. Ісус мовив: Я оберу вас одного на тисячу і двох на десять тисяч, і вони будуть стояти як одне.

29. Учні його сказали: Покажи нам місце, де ти, позаяк нам необхідно віднайти його. Він мовив їм: Той, хто має вуха, хай почує! Є світло всередині людини світла, і вона освітлює увесь світ. Якщо вона не освітлює, то – темрява.

30. Ісус мовив: Люби брата твого, як душу твою. Охороняй його як зіницю ока твого.

31. Ісус мовив: Скалку в окові брата твого ти бачиш, колоди ж в твоєму окові ти не бачиш. Коли ти виймеш колоду з твого ока, тоді ти побачиш, як вийняти скалку з ока брата твого.

32. Якщо ви не поститеся від світу, ви не знайдете царства. Якщо не робите суботу суботою, ви не побачите Отця.

33. Ісус мовив: Я встав посеред світу, і я з’явився їм у плоті. Я знайшов усіх їх п’яними, я не знайшов нікого з них спраглими і душа моя зажурилася за дітей людських. Бо сліпі вони в серці своєму і вони не бачать, що вони приходять у світ порожніми; вони шукають знову піти зі світу порожніми. Проте тепер вони п’яні. Коли вони відвернуть своє вино, тоді вони покаються.

34. Ісус мовив: Якщо плоть створилася заради духу, це – диво. Якщо ж дух заради тіла, це – чудо з чудес. Проте я, я дивуюся тому, як таке велике багатство втілене у такій бідності.

35. Ісус мовив: Там, де три боги, там боги. Там, де два чи один, я з ним.

36. Ісус сказав: Нема пророка, що прийнятий у своєму поселенні. Не лікує лікар тих, котрі знають його.

37. Ісус мовив: Місто, побудоване на високій горі, що зміцнений, не може впасти, і він не може бути таємним.

38. Ісус сказав: Те, що ти почуєш твоїм вухом, повідом це іншому вухові з ваших покрівель. Бо ніхто не запалює світильника (і) не кладе його під чашу й ніхто не ставить його у таємне місце, проте ставить його на підставку для світильника, аби усі, хто заходить і виходить, бачили його світло.

39. Ісус мовив: Якщо сліпий веде сліпого, обоє потрапляють до ями.

40. Ісус сказав: Неможливо, аби хтось увійшов у дім сильного й узяв його силою, якщо він не зв’яже його руки. Тоді (лише) він розграбує дім його.

41. Ісус сказав: Не турбуйтеся з ранку до вечора й із вечора до ранку про те, що ви одягнете на себе.

42. Учні його сказали: У який день ти явишся нам й у який день ми побачимо тебе? Ісус мовив: Коли ви оголитеся і не засоромитеся й візьмете ваше вбрання, покладете його до ваших ніг, подібно до малих дітей, затупцюєте їх, тоді [ви побачите] сина того, хто живий, і ви не боятиметеся.

43. Ісус сказав: Багато разів ви прагнете чути ці слова, які я вам мовлю, і у вас немає іншого, від кого (ви можете) чути їх. Настануть дні – ви будете шукати мене, ви не знайдете мене.

44. Ісус мовив: Фарисеї та книжники взяли ключі від знання. Вони заховали їх і не увійшли й не дозволили тим, котрі хтять увійти. Ви ж будьте мудрими, як змії, і чистими, мов голуби.

45. Ісус мовив: Виноградна лоза була посаджена без Отця, і вона не зміцнилася. Її викорчують, (і) вона загине.

46. Ісус сказав: Той, хто має у своїй руці, – йому дадуть; і той, у кого немає, то те мале, що має, – у нього візьмуть.

47. Ісус мовив: Будьте перехожими.

48. Учні його сказали йому: Хто ти, котрий кажеш нам це? (Ісус мовив їм:) З того, що я вам говорю, ви не пізнаєте, хто я? Проте ви стали як юдеї, бо вони люблять дерево (і) ненавидять його плід, вони люблять плід (і) ненавидять дерево.

49. Ісус сказав: Той, хто висловив хулу на Отця, – йому пробачиться, і той, хто висловив хулу на Сина, – йому пробачиться. Але той, хто висловив хулу на Духа святого, – йому не пробачиться ні на землі, ані на небі.

50. Ісус мовив: Не збирають винограду із тернини й не жнивують смокв з верблюжих колючок. Вони не дають плоду. Добра людина виносить добре зі свого скарбу. Зла людина виносить лихе зі свого дурного скарбу, котре в його серці, (і) вона мовить лихе, бо з надлишку серця вона виносить лихе.

51. Ісус сказав: Від Адама до Івана Хрестителя від народжених дружинами немає вище за Івана Хрестителя. <...> Проте я сказав: Той з вас, хто стане малим, пізнає царство і буде вище за Івана.

52. Ісус мовив: Неможливо людині сісти на двох коней, натягнути два луки, і неможливо рабу служити двом господарям: або він буде з учтиво ставитися до одного й іншому він буде лихословити. Жодна людина, котра п’є старе вино, відразу не прагне випити вино молоде. І не наливають молоде вино у старі міхи, аби вони не розірвалися, і не наливають старе вино у нові міхи, аби вони не псували його. Не накладають стару латку на новий одяг, бо станеться розрив.

53. Ісус мовив: Якщо двоє в світі одне з одним в одній і тій же хаті, вони скажуть лихо: Перемістись! – і воно переміститься.

54. Ісус сказав: Блаженні єдині та обрані, бо ви віднайдете царство, бо ви від нього (і) ви знову туди повернетеся.

55. Ісус мовив: Якщо вам кажуть: Звідки ви походите? – скажіть їм: Ми прийшли від світла, від місця, де світло виникло від самого себе. Воно… в їх образі. Якщо вам кажуть: Хто ви? – скажіть: Ми його діти, і ми обрані Отця живого. Якщо вас запитують: Який знак вашого Отця, котрий у середині вас? – скажіть їм: Це рух і спокій.

56. Учні його сказали йому: В який день настане спокій тих, що мертві? І у який день новий світ приходить? Він сказав їм: Той (спокій), котрий ви очікуєте, прийшов, але ви не пізнали його.

57. Учні його сказали йому: Двадцять чотири пророки висловилися в Ізраїлі, і усі вони сказали про тебе. Він сказав їм: Ви залишили того, хто жив перед вами, і ви сказали про тих, хто мертвий.

58. Учні його сказали йому: Обрізання корисне чи ні? Він мовив їм: Якщо б воно було корисне, їх тато зачав би їх у їхній матері обрізаними. Проте справжнє обрізання у духові виявило цілковиту користь.

59. Ісус мовив: Блаженні бідні, бо вашим є царство небесне.

60. Ісус сказав: Той, хто не зненавидів свого батька і свою матір, не зможе бути моїм учнем, і той, хто не зненавидів своїх братів та своїх сестер і не поніс свій хрест, як я, не стане вартим мене.

61. Ісус мовив: Той, хто пізнав світ, знайшов труп, і той, хто знайшов труп – світ невартий його.

62. Ісус сказав: Царство Отця подібне до людини, у якої [гарне] насіння. Її ворог прийшов вночі, висіяв полову разом з гарним насінням. Людина не дозволила їм (служителям) вирвати полову. Вона мовила їм: Не приходьте, щоби, вириваючи полову, ви не вирвали пшеницю разом із нею! Адже у день жнив полови з’являться, їх вирвуть і спалять.

63. Ісус мовив: Блаженною є людина, що попрацювала. Вона знайшла життя.

64. Ісус мовив: Подивіться на того, хто живий, допоки ви живете, аби ви не померли, – шукайте побачити його! І ви не зможете побачити самаритянина, що несе ягня (і) входить в Іудею. Він сказав учням своїм: (Чому) він з ягням? Вони сказали йому: Щоби убити його і з’їсти його. Він мовив їм: Ви також шукаєте собі місце у спокої, аби ви не стали трупом і вас не з’їли.

65. Ісус сказав: Двоє будуть відпочивати на ложі: один помре, інший житиме. Соломія сказала: Хто ти, людино, і чий ти (син)? Ти зійшов на моє ложе, і ти поїв за моїм столом. Ісус мовив їй: Я той, котрий прийшов від того, що рівний мені; мені дано належне моєму Отцю. (Соломія сказала:) Я твоя учениця. (Ісус сказав їй:) Тому я говорю наступне: Коли він стане порожнім, він сповниться світлом, але, коли він стане розділеним, він сповниться пітьмою.

66. Ісус сказав: Я мовлю мої таємниці… таїна. Те, що твоя правиця робитиме, – хай твоя лівиця не знає того, що вона робить.

67. Ісус сказав: Була людина багата, у якої було багато добра. Він сказав: Я використовую моє добро, щоби засіяти, зібрати, посадити, наповнити мої засіки плодами, аби мені не мати потреби ні в чому. Ось про що він думав у серці своєму. І тієї ж ночі він помер. Той, хто має вуха, хай чує!

68. Ісус мовив: В чоловіка були гості, і, коли він приготував вечерю, він послав свого раба, аби він запросив гостей. Він пішов до першого, він сказав йому: Мій господар запрошує тебе. Він сказав: В мене гроші для торговців, вони прийдуть до мене ввечері, піду (і) дам їм розпорядження: Я відмовляюся від вечері. Юнак пішов до іншого, він сказав йому: Мій пан запросив тебе. Він сказав йому: Я купив дім, і мене просять вдень. В мене не буде часу. Він пішов до іншого, він сказав йому: Мій пан запрошує тебе. Він сказав йому: Мій друг буде святкувати весілля, і я влаштовуватиму вечерю. Я не зможу прийти. Я відмовляюся від вечері. Він пішов до іншого, він сказав йому: Я купив село, я піду збирати податок. Я не зможу прийти. Я відмовляюся. Раб прийшов, він сказав своєму господареві: Ті, кого ти запросив до вечері, відмовилися. Пан сказав своєму рабу: Піди на шляхи, кого знайдеш, приведи їх, щоби вони повечеряли. Покупці і торгівці не увійдуть у місця мого батька.

69. Він сказав: В доброго чоловіка був виноградник; він віддав його робітникам, щоби вони обробили його і щоби він отримав його плід від них. Він послав свого раба, аби робітники дали йому плід виноградаря. Ті схопили його раба, вони робили його, ще трішки – і вони вбили б його. Раб прийшов, він розповів своєму панові. Його пан сказав: Можливо, вони його не впізнали (в оригіналі: Можливо, він їх не взнав). Він послав іншого раба. Робітники побили цього. Тоді господар послав свого сина. Він сказав: Можливо, вони посоромляться мого сина. Ці робітники, коли дізналися, що він спадкоємець виноградаря, схопили його, вони вбили його. Той, хто має вуха, хай чує!

70. Ісус сказав: Покажи мені камінь, якого будівельники відкинули! Він – наріжний камінь.

71. Ісус сказав: Той, хто знає усе, потребуючи самого себе, має потребу у всьому.

72. Ісус сказав: Блаженні ви, коли вас ненавидять (і) вас переслідують. І не знайдуть місця там, де вас переслідували.

73. Ісус мовив: Блаженні ті, котрих переслідували в їхньому серці; це ті, що пізнали Отця в істині. Блаженні головні, тому що черево того, хто бажає, буде насичене.

74. Ісус мовив: Коли ви народжуєте це в собі, те, що ви маєте, врятує вас. Якщо ви не маєте цього в собі, те, чого ви не маєте у собі, умертвить вас.

75. Ісус мовив: Я зруйную [цей] дім, і немає нікого, хто зможе побудувати його [ще раз].

76. [Який чоловік сказав] йому: Скажи моїм братам, аби вони розділили речі мого батька зі мною. Він сказав йому: О чоловіче, хто зробив мене тим, хто розподіляє? Він повернувся до своїх учнів, мовив їм: Аби не став я тим, хто ділить!

77. Ісус сказав: Жнива рясні, робітників же мало. Просіть же господаря, щоби він надіслав робітників на жнива.

78. Він сказав: Господи, багато хто навколо джерела, проте нікого немає у джерелі.

79. Ісус сказав: Багато хто стоять перед дверима, проте єдині ті, котрі увійдуть до шлюбного чертогу.

80. Ісус сказав: Царство Отця подібне до торгівця, що має товари, що знайшов перлину. Цей торгівець – мудрий: він продав товари (і) купив собі одну перлину. Ви також – шукайте його скарб, який не згине, котрий залишається там, куди не потрапляє моль, аби з’їсти, і (де) не згубить хробак.

81. Ісус мовив: Я є світло, котре на усіх. Я – усе: усе вийшло з мене і усе повернулося до мене. Розрубай дерево, я – там; піднеси камінь, і ти віднайдеш мене там.

82. Ісус мовив: Чому ви пішли у поле? Щоби бачити очерет, що коливається вітром, і бачити чоловіка, що носить на собі м’які вбрання? [Дивіться, ваші] царі і ваші знані люди – це вони носять на собі м’які вбрання й вони не зможуть пізнати істину!

83. Жінка в юрбі сказала Йому: Блаженне чрево, що виносило тебе, і [груди], що вигодували тебе. Він сказав їй: Блаженні ті, що почули слово Отця (і) зберегли його в істині. Бо прийдуть дні, ви скажете: Блаженне чрево, що не зачало, і груди, що не дали молока.

84. Ісус мовив: Той, хто пізнав світ, знайшов тіло, але той, хто знайшов тіло, – світ невартий його.

85. Ісус мовив: Той, хто зробився багатим, нехай царює, і той, у кого сила, хай відмовиться.

86. Ісус мовив: Той, хто поблизу мене, поблизу вогню, і хто вдалечині від мене, вдалечині від царства.

87. Ісус мовив: Образи являються людині, і світло, яке в них, приховане. В образі світла Отця воно (світло) відкриється, і його образ прихований через його світло.

88. Ісус мовив: Коли ви бачите вашу подібність, ви радієте. Проте коли ви бачите ваші образи, що виникли до вас, – вони не вмирають і не з’являються – чи настільки величне ви перенесете?

89. Ісус мовив: Адам з’явився від великої сили і великого багатства, і він невартий вас. Бо… смерті.

90. Ісус сказав: [Лисиці мають свої нори], і птахи мають [свої] гнізда, а Син людини не має місця, аби прихилити свою голову (і) відпочити.

91. Ісус сказав: Нещасним є тіло, що залежить від тіла, і нещасною є душа, що залежить від них обох.

92. Ісус сказав: Янголи приходять до вас і пророки, і вони дадуть вам те, що ваше, і ви також дайте їм те, що в ваших руках, (і) скажіть собі: В який день вони приходять (і) беруть те, що належить їм?

93. Ісус сказав: Чому ви миєте всередині чаші (і) не розумієте того, що той, хто зробив внутрішню частину, зробив також внутрішню частину?

94. Ісус сказав: Прийдіть до мене, позаяк кара моя – благо і влада моя сумирна, і ви знайдете спокій собі.

95. Вони сказали йому: Скажи нам, хто Ти, щоби ми повірили у Тебе. Він мовив їм: Ви випробовуєте обличчя неба і землі; і того (що?) перед вами, – ви не пізнали його; і це час – ви не знаєте, (як) випробувати його.

96. Ісус сказав: Шукайте і ви знайдете, але ті (речі), про які ви запитали мене у ті дні, – я не сказав вам тоді. Тепер я хочу сказати їх, і ви не шукаєте їх.

97. Не давайте того, що святе, собакам, аби вони не кинули це у перегній. Не кидайте перлин свиням, аби вони не зробили цього…

98. Ісус [сказав]: Той, хто шукає, знайде, [і той, хто стукає], йому відчинять.

99. [Ісус сказав:] Якщо у вас є гроші, не давайте у зиск, але дайте… від кого ви не візьмете їх.

100. Ісус [сказав: Царство] Отця подібне до жінки, що взяла трошки закваски, [поклала] це у тісто (і) розподілила це у великі хліби. Хто має вуха, хай чує!

101. Ісус сказав: Царство [Отця] подібне до жінки, що несе глек, сповнений борошна, (і) йде шляхом, що віддаляється. Ручка глека розбилася, борошно розсипалося позаду неї на шляху. Вона не знала (про це), вона не зрозуміла, (як) діяти. Коли вона досягла свого дому, вона поклала глек на землю (і) віднайшла його порожнім.

102. Ісус сказав: Царство Отця подібне до чоловіка, що хоче убити сильну людину. Він взяв меч у своєму домі, він встромив його у стіну, аби дізнатися, чи буде рука його міцною. Тоді він убив сильного.

103. Учні сказали Йому: Твої брати і твоя мати стоять ззовні. Він сказав їм: Ті, котрі тут, котрі виконують волю мого Отця, – мої брати і моя мати. Вони ті, що увійдуть до царства мого Отця.

104. Ісусу показали золото й сказали йому. Ті, хто належать до Цезаря, вимагають від нас податі. Він мовив їм: Дайте Цезарю те, що належить Цезареві, дайте Богові те, що належить Богові, і те, що моє, дайте це мені!

These are the secret sayings which the living Jesus spoke and which Didymos Judas Thomas wrote down.

(1) And he said, "Whoever finds the interpretation of these sayings will not experience death."

(2) Jesus said, "Let him who seeks continue seeking until he finds. When he finds, he will become troubled. When he becomes troubled, he will be astonished, and he will rule over the All."

(3) Jesus said, "If those who lead you say to you, 'See, the kingdom is in the sky,' then the birds of the sky will precede you. If they say to you, 'It is in the sea,' then the fish will precede you. Rather, the kingdom is inside of you, and it is outside of you. When you come to know yourselves, then you will become known, and you will realize that it is you who are the sons of the living father. But if you will not know yourselves, you dwell in poverty and it is you who are that poverty."

(4) Jesus said, "The man old in days will not hesitate to ask a small child seven days old about the place of life, and he will live. For many who are first will become last, and they will become one and the same."

(5) Jesus said, "Recognize what is in your sight, and that which is hidden from you will become plain to you . For there is nothing hidden which will not become manifest."

(6) His disciples questioned him and said to him, "Do you want us to fast? How shall we pray? Shall we give alms? What diet shall we observe?"

Jesus said, "Do not tell lies, and do not do what you hate, for all things are plain in the sight of heaven. For nothing hidden will not become manifest, and nothing covered will remain without being uncovered."

(7) Jesus said, "Blessed is the lion which becomes man when consumed by man; and cursed is the man whom the lion consumes, and the lion becomes man."

(8) And he said, "The man is like a wise fisherman who cast his net into the sea and drew it up from the sea full of small fish. Among them the wise fisherman found a fine large fish. He threw all the small fish back into the sea and chose the large fish without difficulty. Whoever has ears to hear, let him hear."

(9) Jesus said, "Now the sower went out, took a handful (of seeds), and scattered them. Some fell on the road; the birds came and gathered them up. Others fell on the rock, did not take root in the soil, and did not produce ears. And others fell on thorns; they choked the seed(s) and worms ate them. And others fell on the good soil and it produced good fruit: it bore sixty per measure and a hundred and twenty per measure."

(10) Jesus said, "I have cast fire upon the world, and see, I am guarding it until it blazes."

(11) Jesus said, "This heaven will pass away, and the one above it will pass away. The dead are not alive, and the living will not die. In the days when you consumed what is dead, you made it what is alive. When you come to dwell in the light, what will you do? On the day when you were one you became two. But when you become two, what will you do?"

(12) The disciples said to Jesus, "We know that you will depart from us. Who is to be our leader?" Jesus said to them, "Wherever you are, you are to go to James the righteous, for whose sake heaven and earth came into being."

(13) Jesus said to his disciples, "Compare me to someone and tell me whom I am like."

Simon Peter said to him, "You are like a righteous angel."

Matthew said to him, "You are like a wise philosopher."

Thomas said to him, "Master, my mouth is wholly incapable of saying whom you are like."

Jesus said, "I am not your master. Because you have drunk, you have become intoxicated from the bubbling spring which I have measured out."

And he took him and withdrew and told him three things. When Thomas returned to his companions, they asked him, "What did Jesus say to you?"

Thomas said to them, "If I tell you one of the things which he told me, you will pick up stones and throw them at me; a fire will come out of the stones and burn you up."

(14) Jesus said to them, "If you fast, you will give rise to sin for yourselves; and if you pray, you will be condemned; and if you give alms, you will do harm to your spirits. When you go into any land and walk about in the districts, if they receive you, eat what they will set before you, and heal the sick among them. For what goes into your mouth will not defile you, but that which issues from your mouth - it is that which will defile you."

(15) Jesus said, "When you see one who was not born of woman, prostrate yourselves on your faces and worship him. That one is your father."

(16) Jesus said, "Men think, perhaps, that it is peace which I have come to cast upon the world. They do not know that it is dissension which I have come to cast upon the earth: fire, sword, and war. For there will be five in a house: three will be against two, and two against three, the father against the son, and the son against the father. And they will stand solitary."

(17) Jesus said, "I shall give you what no eye has seen and what no ear has heard and what no hand has touched and what has never occurred to the human mind."

(18) The disciples said to Jesus, "Tell us how our end will be."

Jesus said, "Have you discovered, then, the beginning, that you look for the end? For where the beginning is, there will the end be. Blessed is he who will take his place in the beginning; he will know the end and will not experience death."

(19) Jesus said, "Blessed is he who came into being before he came into being. If you become my disciples and listen to my words, these stones will minister to you. For there are five trees for you in Paradise which remain undisturbed summer and winter and whose leaves do not fall. Whoever becomes acquainted with them will not experience death."

(20) The disciples said to Jesus, "Tell us what the kingdom of heaven is like."

He said to them, "It is like a mustard seed. It is the smallest of all seeds. But when it falls on tilled soil, it produces a great plant and becomes a shelter for birds of the sky."

(21) Mary said to Jesus, "Whom are your disciples like?"

He said, "They are like children who have settled in a field which is not theirs. When the owners of the field come, they will say, 'Let us have back our field.' They (will) undress in their presence in order to let them have back their field and to give it back to them. Therefore I say, if the owner of a house knows that the thief is coming, he will begin his vigil before he comes and will not let him dig through into his house of his domain to carry away his goods. You, then, be on your guard against the world. Arm yourselves with great strength lest the robbers find a way to come to you, for the difficulty which you expect will (surely) materialize. Let there be among you a man of understanding. When the grain ripened, he came quickly with his sickle in his hand and reaped it. Whoever has ears to hear, let him hear."

(22) Jesus saw infants being suckled. He said to his disciples, "These infants being suckled are like those who enter the kingdom."

They said to him, "Shall we then, as children, enter the kingdom?"

Jesus said to them, "When you make the two one, and when you make the inside like the outside and the outside like the inside, and the above like the below, and when you make the male and the female one and the same, so that the male not be male nor the female female; and when you fashion eyes in the place of an eye, and a hand in place of a hand, and a foot in place of a foot, and a likeness in place of a likeness; then will you enter the kingdom."

(23) Jesus said, "I shall choose you, one out of a thousand, and two out of ten thousand, and they shall stand as a single one."

(24) His disciples said to him, "Show us the place where you are, since it is necessary for us to seek it."

He said to them, "Whoever has ears, let him hear. There is light within a man of light, and he lights up the whole world. If he does not shine, he is darkness."

(25) Jesus said, "Love your brother like your soul, guard him like the pupil of your eye."

(26) Jesus said, "You see the mote in your brother's eye, but you do not see the beam in your own eye. When you cast the beam out of your own eye, then you will see clearly to cast the mote from your brother's eye."

(27) "If you do not fast as regards the world, you will not find the kingdom. If you do not observe the Sabbath as a Sabbath, you will not see the father."

(28) Jesus said, "I took my place in the midst of the world, and I appeared to them in flesh. I found all of them intoxicated; I found none of them thirsty. And my soul became afflicted for the sons of men, because they are blind in their hearts and do not have sight; for empty they came into the world, and empty too they seek to leave the world. But for the moment they are intoxicated. When they shake off their wine, then they will repent."

(29) Jesus said, "If the flesh came into being because of spirit, it is a wonder. But if spirit came into being because of the body, it is a wonder of wonders. Indeed, I am amazed at how this great wealth has made its home in this poverty."

(30) Jesus said, "Where there are three gods, they are gods. Where there are two or one, I am with him."

(31) Jesus said, "No prophet is accepted in his own village; no physician heals those who know him."

(32) Jesus said, "A city being built on a high mountain and fortified cannot fall, nor can it be hidden."

(33) Jesus said, "Preach from your housetops that which you will hear in your ear. For no one lights a lamp and puts it under a bushel, nor does he put it in a hidden place, but rather he sets it on a lampstand so that everyone who enters and leaves will see its light."

(34) Jesus said, "If a blind man leads a blind man, they will both fall into a pit."

(35) Jesus said, "It is not possible for anyone to enter the house of a strong man and take it by force unless he binds his hands; then he will (be able to) ransack his house."

(36) Jesus said, "Do not be concerned from morning until evening and from evening until morning about what you will wear."

(37) His disciples said, "When will you become revealed to us and when shall we see you?"

Jesus said, "When you disrobe without being ashamed and take up your garments and place them under your feet like little children and tread on them, then will you see the son of the living one, and you will not be afraid"

(38) Jesus said, "Many times have you desired to hear these words which I am saying to you, and you have no one else to hear them from. There will be days when you will look for me and will not find me."

(39) Jesus said, "The pharisees and the scribes have taken the keys of knowledge (gnosis) and hidden them. They themselves have not entered, nor have they allowed to enter those who wish to. You, however, be as wise as serpents and as innocent as doves."

(40) Jesus said, "A grapevine has been planted outside of the father, but being unsound, it will be pulled up by its roots and destroyed."

(41) Jesus said, "Whoever has something in his hand will receive more, and whoever has nothing will be deprived of even the little he has."

(42) Jesus said, "Become passers-by."

(43) His disciples said to him, "Who are you, that you should say these things to us?"

"You do not realize who I am from what I say to you, but you have become like the Jews, for they (either) love the tree and hate its fruit (or) love the fruit and hate the tree."

(44) Jesus said, "Whoever blasphemes against the father will be forgiven, and whoever blasphemes against the son will be forgiven, but whoever blasphemes against the holy spirit will not be forgiven either on earth or in heaven."

(45) Jesus said, "Grapes are not harvested from thorns, nor are figs gathered from thistles, for they do not produce fruit. A good man brings forth good from his storehouse; an evil man brings forth evil things from his evil storehouse, which is in his heart, and says evil things. For out of the abundance of the heart he brings forth evil things."

(46) Jesus said, "Among those born of women, from Adam until John the Baptist, there is no one so superior to John the Baptist that his eyes should not be lowered (before him). Yet I have said, whichever one of you comes to be a child will be acquainted with the kingdom and will become superior to John."

(47) Jesus said, "It is impossible for a man to mount two horses or to stretch two bows. And it is impossible for a servant to serve two masters; otherwise, he will honor the one and treat the other contemptuously. No man drinks old wine and immediately desires to drink new wine. And new wine is not put into old wineskins, lest they burst; nor is old wine put into a new wineskin, lest it spoil it. An old patch is not sewn onto a new garment, because a tear would result."

(48) Jesus said, "If two make peace with each other in this one house, they will say to the mountain, 'Move Away,' and it will move away."

(49) Jesus said, "Blessed are the solitary and elect, for you will find the kingdom. For you are from it, and to it you will return."

(50) Jesus said, "If they say to you, 'Where did you come from?', say to them, 'We came from the light, the place where the light came into being on its own accord and established itself and became manifest through their image.' If they say to you, 'Is it you?', say, 'We are its children, we are the elect of the living father.' If they ask you, 'What is the sign of your father in you?', say to them, 'It is movement and repose.'"

(51) His disciples said to him, "When will the repose of the dead come about, and when will the new world come?"

He said to them, "What you look forward to has already come, but you do not recognize it."

(52) His disciples said to him, "Twenty-four prophets spoke in Israel, and all of them spoke in you."

He said to them, "You have omitted the one living in your presence and have spoken (only) of the dead."

(53) His disciples said to him, "Is circumcision beneficial or not?"

He said to them, "If it were beneficial, their father would beget them already circumcised from their mother. Rather, the true circumcision in spirit has become completely profitable."

(54) Jesus said, "Blessed are the poor, for yours is the kingdom of heaven."

(55) Jesus said, "Whoever does not hate his father and his mother cannot become a disciple to me. And whoever does not hate his brothers and sisters and take up his cross in my way will not be worthy of me."

(56) Jesus said, "Whoever has come to understand the world has found (only) a corpse, and whoever has found a corpse is superior to the world."

(57) Jesus said, "The kingdom of the father is like a man who had good seed. His enemy came by night and sowed weeds among the good seed. The man did not allow them to pull up the weeds; he said to them, 'I am afraid that you will go intending to pull up the weeds and pull up the wheat along with them.' For on the day of the harvest the weeds will be plainly visible, and they will be pulled up and burned."

(58) Jesus said, "Blessed is the man who has suffered and found life."

(59) Jesus said, "Take heed of the living one while you are alive, lest you die and seek to see him and be unable to do so."

(60) a Samaritan carrying a lamb on his way to Judea. He said to his disciples, "That man is round about the lamb."

They said to him, "So that he may kill it and eat it."

He said to them, "While it is alive, he will not eat it, but only when he has killed it and it has become a corpse."

They said to him, "He cannot do so otherwise."

He said to them, "You too, look for a place for yourself within repose, lest you become a corpse and be eaten."

(61) Jesus said, "Two will rest on a bed: the one will die, and the other will live."

Salome said, "Who are you, man, that you ... have come up on my couch and eaten from my table?"

Jesus said to her, "I am he who exists from the undivided. I was given some of the things of my father."

<...> "I am your disciple."

<...> "Therefore I say, if he is destroyed, he will be filled with light, but if he is divided, he will be filled with darkness."

(62) Jesus said, "It is to those who are worthy of my mysteries that I tell my mysteries. Do not let your left (hand) know what your right (hand) is doing."

(63) Jesus said, "There was a rich man who had much money. He said, 'I shall put my money to use so that I may sow, reap, plant, and fill my storehouse with produce, with the result that I shall lack nothing.' Such were his intentions, but that same night he died. Let him who has ears hear."

(64) Jesus said, "A man had received visitors. And when he had prepared the dinner, he sent his servant to invite the guests.

He went to the first one and said to him, 'My master invites you.' He said, 'I have claims against some merchants. They are coming to me this evening. I must go and give them my orders. I ask to be excused from the dinner.'

He went to another and said to him, 'My master has invited you.' He said to him, 'I have just bought a house and am required for the day. I shall not have any spare time.'

He went to another and said to him, 'My master invites you.' He said to him, 'My friend is going to get married, and I am to prepare the banquet. I shall not be able to come. I ask to be excused from the dinner.'

He went to another and said to him, 'My master invites you.' He said to him, 'I have just bought a farm, and I am on my way to collect the rent. I shall not be able to come. I ask to be excused.'

The servant returned and said to his master, 'Those whom you invited to the dinner have asked to be excused.' The master said to his servant, 'Go outside to the streets and bring back those whom you happen to meet, so that they may dine.' Businessmen and merchants will not enter the places of my father."

(65) He said, "There was a good man who owned a vineyard. He leased it to tenant farmers so that they might work it and he might collect the produce from them. He sent his servant so that the tenants might give him the produce of the vineyard. They seized his servant and beat him, all but killing him. The servant went back and told his master. The master said, 'Perhaps he did not recognize them.' He sent another servant. The tenants beat this one as well. Then the owner sent his son and said, 'Perhaps they will show respect to my son.' Because the tenants knew that it was he who was the heir to the vineyard, they seized him and killed him. Let him who has ears hear."

(66) Jesus said, "Show me the stone which the builders have rejected. That one is the cornerstone."

(67) Jesus said, "If one who knows the all still feels a personal deficiency, he is completely deficient."

(68) Jesus said, "Blessed are you when you are hated and persecuted. Wherever you have been persecuted they will find no place."

(69) Jesus said, "Blessed are they who have been persecuted within themselves. It is they who have truly come to know the father. Blessed are the hungry, for the belly of him who desires will be filled."

(70) Jesus said, "That which you have will save you if you bring it forth from yourselves. That which you do not have within you will kill you if you do not have it within you."

(71) Jesus said, "I shall destroy this house, and no one will be able to build it [...]."

(72) A man said to him, "Tell my brothers to divide my father's possessions with me."

He said to him, "O man, who has made me a divider?"

He turned to his disciples and said to them, "I am not a divider, am I?"

(73) Jesus said, "The harvest is great but the laborers are few. Beseech the Lord, therefore, to send out laborers to the harvest."

(74) He said, "O Lord, there are many around the drinking trough, but there is nothing in the cistern."

(75) Jesus said, "Many are standing at the door, but it is the solitary who will enter the bridal chamber."

(76) Jesus said, "The kingdom of the father is like a merchant who had a consignment of merchandise and who discovered a pearl. That merchant was shrewd. He sold the merchandise and bought the pearl alone for himself. You too, seek his unfailing and enduring treasure where no moth comes near to devour and no worm destroys."

(77) Jesus said, "It is I who am the light which is above them all. It is I who am the all. From me did the all come forth, and unto me did the all extend. Split a piece of wood, and I am there. Lift up the stone, and you will find me there."

(78) Jesus said, "Why have you come out into the desert? To see a reed shaken by the wind? And to see a man clothed in fine garments like your kings and your great men? Upon them are the fine garments, and they are unable to discern the truth."

(79) A woman from the crowd said to him, "Blessed are the womb which bore you and the breasts which nourished you."

He said to her, "Blessed are those who have heard the word of the father and have truly kept it. For there will be days when you will say, 'Blessed are the womb which has not conceived and the breasts which have not given milk.'"

(80) Jesus said, "He who has recognized the world has found the body, but he who has found the body is superior to the world."

(81) Jesus said, "Let him who has grown rich be king, and let him who possesses power renounce it."

(82) Jesus said, "He who is near me is near the fire, and he who is far from me is far from the kingdom."

(83) Jesus said, "The images are manifest to man, but the light in them remains concealed in the image of the light of the father. He will become manifest, but his image will remain concealed by his light."

(84) Jesus said, "When you see your likeness, you rejoice. But when you see your images which came into being before you, and which neither die not become manifest, how much you will have to bear!"

(85) Jesus said, "Adam came into being from a great power and a great wealth, but he did not become worthy of you. For had he been worthy, he would not have experienced death."

(86) Jesus said, "The foxes have their holes and the birds have their nests, but the son of man has no place to lay his head and rest."

(87) Jesus said, "Wretched is the body that is dependant upon a body, and wretched is the soul that is dependent on these two."

(88) Jesus said, "The angels and the prophets will come to you and give to you those things you (already) have. And you too, give them those things which you have, and say to yourselves, 'When will they come and take what is theirs?'"

(89) Jesus said, "Why do you wash the outside of the cup? Do you not realize that he who made the inside is the same one who made the outside?"

(90) Jesus said, "Come unto me, for my yoke is easy and my lordship is mild, and you will find repose for yourselves."

(91) They said to him, "Tell us who you are so that we may believe in you."

He said to them, "You read the face of the sky and of the earth, but you have not recognized the one who is before you, and you do not know how to read this moment."

(92) Jesus said, "Seek and you will find. Yet, what you asked me about in former times and which I did not tell you then, now I do desire to tell, but you do not inquire after it."

(93) "Do not give what is holy to dogs, lest they throw them on the dung-heap. Do not throw the pearls to swine, lest they [...] it [...]."

(94) Jesus said, "He who seeks will find, and he who knocks will be let in."

(95) Jesus said, "If you have money, do not lend it at interest, but give it to one from whom you will not get it back."

(96) Jesus said, "The kingdom of the father is like a certain woman. She took a little leaven, concealed it in some dough, and made it into large loaves. Let him who has ears hear."

(97) Jesus said, "The kingdom of the father is like a certain woman who was carrying a jar full of meal. While she was walking on the road, still some distance from home, the handle of the jar broke and the meal emptied out behind her on the road. She did not realize it; she had noticed no accident. When she reached her house, she set the jar down and found it empty."

(98) Jesus said, "The kingdom of the father is like a certain man who wanted to kill a powerful man. In his own house he drew his sword and stuck it into the wall in order to find out whether his hand could carry through. Then he slew the powerful man."

(99) The disciples said to him, "Your brothers and your mother are standing outside."

He said to them, "Those here who do the will of my father are my brothers and my mother. It is they who will enter the kingdom of my father."

(100) They showed Jesus a gold coin and said to him, "Caesar's men demand taxes from us."

He said to them, "Give Caesar what belongs to Caesar, give God what belongs to God, and give me what is mine."

(101) "Whoever does not hate his father and his mother as I do cannot become a disciple to me. And whoever does not love his father and his mother as I do cannot become a disciple to me. For my mother [...], but my true mother gave me life."

(102) Jesus said, "Woe to the pharisees, for they are like a dog sleeping in the manger of oxen, for neither does he eat nor does he let the oxen eat."

(103) Jesus said, "Fortunate is the man who knows where the brigands will enter, so that he may get up, muster his domain, and arm himself before they invade."

(104) They said to Jesus, "Come, let us pray today and let us fast."

Jesus said, "What is the sin that I have committed, or wherein have I been defeated? But when the bridegroom leaves the bridal chamber, then let them fast and pray."

(105) Jesus said, "He who knows the father and the mother will be called the son of a harlot."

(106) Jesus said, "When you make the two one, you will become the sons of man, and when you say, 'Mountain, move away,' it will move away."

(107) Jesus said, "The kingdom is like a shepherd who had a hundred sheep. One of them, the largest, went astray. He left the ninety-nine sheep and looked for that one until he found it. When he had gone to such trouble, he said to the sheep, 'I care for you more than the ninety-nine.'"

(108) Jesus said, "He who will drink from my mouth will become like me. I myself shall become he, and the things that are hidden will be revealed to him."

(109) Jesus said, "The kingdom is like a man who had a hidden treasure in his field without knowing it. And after he died, he left it to his son. The son did not know (about the treasure). He inherited the field and sold it. And the one who bought it went plowing and found the treasure. He began to lend money at interest to whomever he wished."

(110) Jesus said, "Whoever finds the world and becomes rich, let him renounce the world."

(111) Jesus said, "The heavens and the earth will be rolled up in your presence. And the one who lives from the living one will not see death." Does not Jesus say, "Whoever finds himself is superior to the world?"

(112) Jesus said, "Woe to the flesh that depends on the soul; woe to the soul that depends on the flesh."

(113) His disciples said to him, "When will the kingdom come?"

"It will not come by waiting for it. It will not be a matter of saying 'here it is' or 'there it is.' Rather, the kingdom of the father is spread out upon the earth, and men do not see it."

(114) Simon Peter said to him, "Let Mary leave us, for women are not worthy of life."

Jesus said, "I myself shall lead her in order to make her male, so that she too may become a living spirit resembling you males. For every woman who will make herself male will enter the kingdom of heaven."

Queste sono le parole segrete che Gesù il Vivente ha detto e Didimo Giuda Tommaso ha trascritto:

1. Egli disse: "Chiunque trova la spiegazione di queste parole non gusterà la morte".

2. Gesù disse: "Coloro che cercano cerchino finché troveranno. Quando troveranno, resteranno commossi. Quando saranno turbati si stupiranno, e regneranno su tutto."

3. Gesù disse, "Se i vostri capi vi diranno, 'Vedete, il Regno è nei cieli', allora gli uccelli dei cieli vi precederanno. Se vi diranno, 'È nei mari', allora i pesci vi precederanno. Invece, il Regno è dentro di voi e fuori di voi.

Quando vi conoscerete sarete riconosciuti, e comprenderete di essere figli del Padre vivente. Ma se non vi conoscerete, allora vivrete in miseria, e sarete la miseria stessa."

4. Gesù disse, "L'uomo di età avanzata non esiterà a chiedere a un bambino di sette giorni dov'è il luogo della vita, e quell'uomo vivrà.

Perché molti dei primi saranno ultimi, e diventeranno tutt'uno."

5. Gesù disse, "Sappiate cosa vi sta davanti agli occhi, e quello che vi è nascosto vi sarà rivelato.

Perché nulla di quanto è nascosto non sarà rivelato."

6. I suoi discepoli gli chiesero e dissero, "Vuoi che digiuniamo? Come dobbiamo pregare? Dobbiamo fare elemosine? Quale dieta dobbiamo osservare?"

7. Gesù disse, "Non mentite, e non fate ciò che odiate, perché ogni cosa è manifesta in cielo. Alla fine, nulla di quanto è nascosto non sarà rivelato, e nulla di quanto è celato resterà nascosto."

7. Gesù disse, "Fortunato è il leone che verrà mangiato dall'umano, perché il leone diventerà umano. E disgraziato è l'umano che verrà mangiato dal leone, poiché il leone diventerà comunque umano."

8. E disse, "L'uomo è come un pescatore saggio che gettò la rete in mare e la ritirò piena di piccoli pesci. Tra quelli il pescatore saggio scoprì un ottimo pesce grosso. Rigettò tutti gli altri pesci in mare, e poté scegliere il pesce grosso con facilità. Chiunque qui abbia due buone orecchie ascolti!"

9. Gesù disse, "Vedete, il seminatore uscì, prese una manciata e seminò. Alcuni semi caddero sulla strada, e gli uccelli vennero a raccoglierli. Altri caddero sulla pietra, e non misero radici e non produssero spighe. Altri caddero sulle spine, e i semi soffocarono e furono mangiati dai vermi. E altri caddero sulla terra buona, e produssero un buon raccolto, che diede il sessanta per uno e il centoventi per uno."

10. Gesù disse, "Ho appiccato fuoco al mondo, e guardate, lo curo finché attecchisce."

11. Gesù disse, "Questo cielo scomparirà, e quello sopra pure scomparirà.

I morti non sono vivi, e i vivi non morranno. Nei giorni in cui mangiaste ciò che era morto lo rendeste vivo. Quando sarete nella luce, cosa farete? Un giorno eravate uno, e diventaste due. Ma quando diventerete due, cosa farete?"

12. I discepoli dissero a Gesù, "Sappiamo che tu ci lascerai. Chi sarà la nostra guida?"

Gesù disse loro, "Dovunque siate dovete andare da Giacomo il Giusto, per amore del quale nacquero cielo e terra."

13. Gesù disse ai suoi discepoli, "Paragonatemi a qualcuno e ditemi come sono."

Simon Pietro gli disse, "Sei come un onesto messaggero."

Matteo gli disse, "Sei come un filosofo sapiente."

Tommaso gli disse, "Maestro, la mia bocca è totalmente incapace di esprimere a cosa somigli."

Gesù disse, "Non sono il tuo maestro. Hai bevuto, e ti sei ubriacato dell'acqua viva che ti ho offerto."

E lo prese con sé, e gli disse tre cose. Quando Tommaso tornò dai suoi amici questi gli chiesero, "Cosa ti ha detto Gesù?"

Tommaso disse loro, "Se vi dicessi una sola delle cose che mi ha detto voi raccogliereste delle pietre e mi lapidereste, e del fuoco verrebbe fuori dalle rocce e vi divorerebbe."

14. Gesù disse loro, "Se digiunate attirerete il peccato su di voi, se pregate sarete condannati, e se farete elemosine metterete in pericolo il vostro spirito.

Quando arrivate in una regione e vi aggirate per la campagna, se la gente vi accoglie mangiate quello che vi offrono e prendetevi cura dei loro ammalati.

Dopo tutto, quello che entra nella vostra bocca non può rendervi impuri, è quello che viene fuori dalla vostra bocca che può rendervi impuri."

15. Gesù disse, "Quando vedrete uno che non è nato da una donna, prostratevi e adoratelo. Quello è il vostro Padre."

16. Gesù disse, "Forse la gente pensa che io sia venuto a portare la pace nel mondo. Non sanno che sono venuto a portare il conflitto nel mondo: fuoco, ferro, guerra.

Perché saranno in cinque in una casa: ce ne saranno tre contro due e due contro tre, padre contro figlio e figlio contro padre, e saranno soli."

17. Gesù disse, "Vi offrirò quello che nessun occhio ha visto, nessun orecchio ha udito, nessuna mano ha toccato, quello che non è apparso nel cuore degli uomini."

18. I discepoli dissero a Gesù, "Dicci, come verrà la nostra fine?"

Gesù disse, "Avete dunque trovato il principio, che cercate la fine? Vedete, la fine sarà dove è il principio.

Beato colui che si situa al principio: perché conoscerà la fine e non sperimenterà la morte."

19. Gesù disse, "Beato colui che nacque prima di nascere.

Se diventate miei discepoli e prestate attenzione alle mie parole, queste pietre vi obbediranno.

Perché vi sono cinque alberi per voi in Paradiso: non mutano, inverno ed estate, e le loro foglie non cadono. Chiunque li conoscerà non sperimenterà la morte."

20. I discepoli dissero a Gesù, "Dicci com'è il Regno dei Cieli."

E lui disse loro, "È come un seme di mostarda, il più piccolo dei semi, ma quando cade sul terreno coltivato produce una grande pianta e diventa un riparo per gli uccelli del cielo."

21. Maria chiese a Gesù, "Come sono i tuoi discepoli?"

Lui disse, "Sono come bambini in un terreno che non gli appartiene. Quando i padroni del terreno arrivano, dicono, 'Restituiteci il terreno.' E quelli si spogliano dei loro abiti per renderglieli, e gli restituiscono il terreno.

Per questo motivo dico, se i proprietari di una casa sanno che sta arrivando un ladro staranno in guardia prima che quello arrivi e non gli permetteranno di entrare nella loro proprietà e rubargli i loro averi.

Anche voi, quindi, state in guardia nei confronti del mondo. Preparatevi con grande energia, così i ladri non avranno occasione di sopraffarvi, perché la disgrazia che attendete verrà.

Che fra voi ci sia qualcuno che comprenda.

Quando il raccolto fu maturo, lui arrivò subito con un sacco e lo mieté. Chiunque abbia due buone orecchie ascolti!"

22. Gesù vide alcuni neonati che poppavano. Disse ai suoi discepoli, "Questi neonati che poppano sono come quelli che entrano nel Regno."

E loro gli dissero, "Dunque entreremo nel regno come neonati?"

Gesù disse loro, "Quando farete dei due uno, e quando farete l'interno come l'esterno e l'esterno come l'interno, e il sopra come il sotto, e quando farete di uomo e donna una cosa sola, così che l'uomo non sia uomo e la donna non sia donna, quando avrete occhi al posto degli occhi, mani al posto delle mani, piedi al posto dei piedi, e figure al posto delle figure allora entrerete nel Regno."

23. Gesù disse, "Sceglierò fra voi, uno fra mille e due fra diecimila, e quelli saranno come un uomo solo."

24. Dissero i suoi discepoli, "Mostraci il luogo dove sei, perché ci occorre cercarlo."

Lui disse loro, "Chiunque qui abbia orecchie ascolti! C'è luce in un uomo di luce, e risplende sul mondo intero. Se non risplende, è buio."

25. Gesù disse, "Amate il vostro amico come voi stessi, proteggetelo come la pupilla del vostro occhio."

26. Gesù disse, "Voi guardate alla pagliuzza nell'occhio del vostro amico, ma non vedete la trave nel vostro occhio. Quando rimuoverete la trave dal vostro occhio, allora ci vedrete abbastanza bene da rimuovere la pagliuzza dall'occhio dell'amico."

27. "Se non digiunate dal mondo, non troverete il Regno. Se non osservate il Sabato come Sabato non vedrete il Padre."

28. Gesù disse, "Ho preso il mio posto nel mondo, e sono apparso loro in carne ed ossa. Li ho trovati tutti ubriachi, e nessuno assetato. Il mio animo ha sofferto per i figli dell'umanità, perché sono ciechi di cuore e non vedono, poiché sono venuti al mondo vuoti, e cercano di andarsene dal mondo pure vuoti.

Ma nel frattempo sono ubriachi. Quando si libereranno dal vino, cambieranno condotta."

29. Gesù disse, "Se la carne fosse nata a causa dello spirito sarebbe una meraviglia, ma se lo spirito fosse nato a causa del corpo sarebbe una meraviglia delle meraviglie.

Eppure mi stupisco di come questa grande ricchezza si sia ridotta in tale miseria."

30. Gesù disse, "Dove ci sono tre divinità, esse sono divine. Dove ce ne sono due o una, io sono con lei."

31. Gesù disse, "Nessun profeta è benvenuto nel proprio circondario; i dottori non curano i loro conoscenti."

32. Gesù disse, "Una città costruita su un’alta collina e fortificata non può essere presa, né nascosta."

33. Gesù disse, "Quanto ascolterete con le vostre orecchie, proclamatelo dai vostri tetti ad altre orecchie.

Dopo tutto, nessuno accende una lampada per metterla in un baule, né per metterla in un posto nascosto. Piuttosto, la mette su un lampadario così che chiunque passi veda la sua luce."

34. Gesù disse, "Se un cieco guida un cieco, entrambi cadranno in un fosso."

35. Gesù disse, "Nessuno può entrare nella casa di un uomo robusto e prenderla con la forza se prima non gli lega le mani. A quel punto uno può sottrargli la casa."

36. Gesù disse, "Non vi tormentate, dalla mattina alla sera, al pensiero di cosa indossare."

37. I suoi discepoli dissero, "Quando ci apparirai, e quando tornerai a visitarci?"

Gesù disse, "Quando vi spoglierete senza vergognarvi, e metterete i vostri abiti sotto i piedi come bambini e li distruggerete, allora vedrete il figlio di colui che vive e non avrete timore."

38. Gesù disse, "Spesso avete desiderato ascoltare queste parole che vi dico, e non avevate nessuno da cui ascoltarle. Vi saranno giorni in cui mi cercherete e non mi troverete."

39. Gesù disse, "I Farisei e gli accademici hanno preso le chiavi della conoscenza e le hanno nascoste. Non sono entrati, e non hanno permesso a quelli che volevano entrare di farlo.

Quanto a voi, siate furbi come serpenti e semplici come colombe."

40. Gesù disse, "Una vite è stata piantata lontano dal Padre. Poiché non è robusta, sarà sradicata a morrà."

41. Gesù disse, "Chiunque ha qualcosa in mano riceverà di più, e chiunque non ha nulla sarà privato anche del poco che ha."

42. Gesù disse, "Siate come passanti."

43. I suoi discepoli gli dissero, "Chi sei tu per dirci queste cose?"

"Non comprendete chi sono da quello che dico.

Invece, siete diventati come i Giudei, che amano l'albero ma odiano i frutti, o amano i frutti ma odiano l'albero."

44. Gesù disse, "Chiunque bestemmia contro il Padre sarà perdonato, e chiunque bestemmia contro il figlio sarà perdonato, ma chiunque bestemmia contro lo spirito santo non sarà perdonato, né sulla terra né in cielo."

45. Gesù disse, "L'uva non si coglie dai rovi, né i fichi dai cardi, poiché essi non danno frutti.

I buoni producono bene da quanto hanno accumulato; i cattivi producono male dalla degenerazione che hanno accumulato nei loro cuori, e dicono cose malvagie. Poiché dal traboccare del cuore producono il male."

46. Gesù disse, "Da Adamo a Giovanni il Battista, fra quanti nacquero da donna nessuno è tanto più grande di Giovanni il Battista da non dover abbassare lo sguardo.

Ma vi dico che chiunque fra voi diventerà un bambino riconoscerà il regno e diventerà più grande di Giovanni."

47. Gesù disse, "Un uomo non può stare in sella a due cavalli o piegare due archi.

E uno schiavo non può servire due padroni, altrimenti lo schiavo onorerà l'uno e offenderà l'altro.

Nessuno beve vino stagionato e subito dopo vuole bere vino giovane. Il vino giovane non viene versato in otri nuovi, altrimenti si guasta.

Non si cuce un panno vecchio su un abito nuovo, perché si strapperebbe."

48. Gesù disse, "Se due persone fanno pace in una stessa casa diranno alla montagna 'Spostati!' e quella si sposterà."

49. Gesù disse, "Beati coloro che sono soli e scelti, perché troveranno il regno. Poiché da lì venite, e lì ritornerete."

50. Gesù disse, "Se vi diranno 'Da dove venite?' dite loro, 'Veniamo dalla luce, dal luogo dove la luce è apparsa da sé, si è stabilita, ed è apparsa nella loro immagine.'

Se vi diranno, 'Siete voi?' dite, 'Siamo i suoi figli, e siamo i prescelti del Padre vivente.'

Se vi chiederanno, 'Qual è la prova che il Padre è in voi?' dite loro, 'È il movimento e la quiete.' "

51. I suoi discepoli gli dissero, "Quando riposeranno i morti, e quando verrà il nuovo mondo?"

Lui disse loro, "Quello che aspettate è venuto, ma non lo sapete."

52. I discepoli gli dissero, "è utile o no la circoncisione?"

Lui disse loro, "Se fosse utile, il loro padre genererebbe figli già circoncisi dalla loro madre. Invece, la vera circoncisione nello spirito è diventata vantaggiosa da ogni punto di vista."

54. Gesù disse, "Beato il povero, perché suo è il regno dei cieli."

55. Gesù disse, "Chi non odierà suo padre e sua madre non potrà essere mio discepolo, e chi non odierà fratelli e sorelle, e porterà la croce come faccio io, non sarà degno di me."

56. Gesù disse, "Chi è arrivato a conoscere il mondo ha scoperto una carcassa, e di chiunque ha scoperto una carcassa il mondo non è degno."

57. Gesù disse, Il regno del Padre è come un uomo che ha dei semi. Il suo nemico di notte gli ha piantato erbacce fra i semi. L'uomo non ha voluto che i braccianti gli strappassero le erbacce, ma ha detto loro, 'No, altrimenti per strappare le erbacce potreste finire per strappare anche il grano.' Poiché il giorno del raccolto le erbacce saranno molte, e saranno strappate e bruciate."

58. Gesù disse, "Beato l'uomo che si è impegnato e ha trovato la vita."

59. Gesù disse, "Guardate colui che vive finché vivete, altrimenti potreste morire e poi cercare di scorgere colui che vive, e non ne sareste capaci."

60. Vide un samaritano che portava un capretto e andava in Giudea. Disse ai suoi discepoli, "Quell'uomo [...] del capretto." Loro gli dissero, "Così che possa ucciderlo e mangiarlo." Lui disse loro, "Non lo mangerà finché è vivo, ma solo dopo averlo ucciso e ridotto a cadavere."

Loro risposero, "Non potrebbe fare altrimenti."

Lui disse loro,"E così pure voi, cercatevi un posto per riposare, o potreste diventare cadaveri e venire mangiati."

61. Gesù disse, "In due si adageranno su un divano; uno morirà, l'altro vivrà."

Disse Salomè, "Chi sei tu signore? Sei salito sul mio divano e hai mangiato dalla mia tavola come se qualcuno ti avesse inviato."

Gesù le disse, "Sono quello che viene da ciò che è integro. Mi sono state donate delle cose di mio Padre."

"Sono tua discepola."

"Per questa ragione io ti dico, se uno è integro verrà colmato di luce, ma se è diviso, sarà riempito di oscurità."

62. Gesù disse, "Io rivelo i miei misteri a coloro che ne sono degni.

Che la vostra mano sinistra non sappia cosa fa la destra."

63. Gesù disse, "C'era un ricco che aveva molto denaro. Disse, 'Investirò questo denaro così che io possa seminare, mietere e riempire i miei magazzini con il raccolti, e che non mi manchi nulla.' Queste erano le cose che pensava in cuor suo, ma quella stessa notte morì. Chi fra voi ha orecchie ascolti!"

64. Gesù disse, "Un uomo organizzò un ricevimento. Quando ebbe preparato la cena, mandò il suo servo a invitare gli ospiti. Il servo andò dal primo e gli disse, 'Il padrone ti invita.' E quegli disse, 'Ci sono dei mercanti che mi devono dei soldi, e vengono da me stasera. Devo andare a dargli istruzioni. Lo prego di scusarmi ma non posso venire a cena.' Il servo andò da un altro e disse, 'Il padrone ti ha invitato.' Quegli disse al servo, 'Ho comprato una casa, e devo assentarmi per un giorno. Non avrò tempo per la cena.' Il servo andò da un altro e gli disse, 'Il padrone ti invita.' Quegli disse al servo, 'Un mio amico si sposa, e devo preparargli il banchetto. Non potrò venire. Lo prego di scusarmi se non posso venire.' Il servo andò da un altro e gli disse, 'Il padrone ti invita.' Quegli disse al servo, 'Ho comprato una proprietà, e sto andando a riscuotere l'affitto. Non potrò venire, Lo prego di scusarmi.' Il servo ritornò e disse al padrone, 'Quelli che avevi invitato a cena chiedono scusa ma non possono venire.' Il padrone disse al servo, 'Vai per la strada e porta a cena chiunque trovi.'

Acquirenti e mercanti non entreranno nei luoghi del Padre mio."

65. Lui disse, Un [...] uomo possedeva una vigna e l'aveva affittata a dei contadini, così che la lavorassero e gli cedessero il raccolto. Mandò il suo servo dai contadini per farsi consegnare il raccolto. Quelli lo afferrarono, lo picchiarono, e quasi l'uccisero. Poi il servo ritornò dal padrone. Il padrone disse, 'Forse non li conosceva.' Mandò un altro servo, e i contadini picchiarono anche quello. Quindi il padrone mandò suo figlio e disse, 'Forse verso mio figlio mostreranno un qualche rispetto.' Poiché i contadini sapevano che lui era l'erede della vigna, lo afferrarono e lo uccisero. Chi ha orecchie ascolti!"

66. Gesù disse, "Mostratemi la pietra scartata dai costruttori; quella è la chiave di volta."

67. Gesù disse, "Quelli che sanno tutto, ma sono carenti dentro, mancano di tutto."

68. Gesù disse, "Beati voi, quando sarete odiati e perseguitati;

e non resterà alcun luogo, dove sarete stati perseguitati."

69. Gesù disse, "Beati quelli che sono stati perseguitati nei cuori: sono loro quelli che sono arrivati a conoscere veramente il Padre.

Beati coloro che sopportano la fame, così che lo stomaco del bisognoso possa essere riempito."

70. Gesù disse, "Se esprimerete quanto avete dentro di voi, quello che avete vi salverà. Se non lo avete dentro di voi, quello che non avete vi perderà."

71. Gesù disse, "Distruggerò questa casa, e nessuno sarà in grado di ricostruirla [...]."

72. Un uomo gli disse, "Dì ai miei fratelli di dividere con me i loro averi."

Lui disse all'uomo, "Signore, e chi mi ha nominato spartitore?"

Si girò verso i discepoli e disse, "Non sono uno spartitore, vero?"

73. Gesù disse, "Il raccolto è enorme ma i braccianti sono pochi, perciò pregate il mietitore di mandare i braccianti nei campi."

74. Lui disse, "Signore, sono in molti attorno all'abbeveratoio, ma non c'è nulla nel pozzo."

75. Gesù disse, "In molti si affollano davanti alla porta, ma sarà il solitario ad entrare nella camera nuziale."

76. Gesù disse, "Il regno del Padre è come un mercante che ricevette un carico di mercanzia e vi trovò una perla. Il mercante fu accorto; vendette la mercanzia e si tenne solo la perla.

Così anche voi, cercate il tesoro che è eterno, che resta, dove nessuna tarma viene a rodere e nessun verme guasta."

77. Gesù disse, "Io sono la luce che è su tutte le cose. Io sono tutto: da me tutto proviene, e in me tutto si compie.

Tagliate un ciocco di legno; io sono lì.

Sollevate la pietra, e mi troverete."

78. Gesù disse, "Perché siete venuti nella campagna? Per vedere una canna scossa dal vento? E per vedere un uomo vestito in abiti raffinati, come i capi e i potenti? Quelli sono vestiti in panni raffinati, e non sanno cogliere la verità."

79. Una donna nella folla gli disse, "Fortunato il grembo che ti generò e il seno che ti nutrì."

Lui le disse, "Fortunati coloro che hanno ascoltato la parola del Padre e l'hanno veramente conservata. Poiché vi saranno giorni in cui direte, 'Fortunato il grembo che non ha concepito, e il seno che non ha allattato. ' "

80. Gesù disse, "Chi è arrivato a conoscere il mondo ha scoperto un cadavere, e chi ha scoperto un cadavere è al di sopra del mondo."

81. Gesù disse, "Lasciate che chi è diventato ricco regni, e che chi ha il potere vi rinunci."

82. Gesù disse, "Chi è vicino a me è vicino al fuoco, e chi è lontano da me è lontano dal regno."

83. Gesù disse, "Le immagini sono visibili alla gente, ma la loro luce è nascosta nell'immagine della luce del Padre. Lui si rivelerà, ma la sua immagine è nascosta dalla sua luce."

84. Gesù disse, "Quando vedete ciò che vi somiglia siete contenti. Ma quando vedrete le immagini che nacquero prima di voi e che non muoiono né diventano visibili, quanto dovrete sopportare!"

85. Gesù disse, "Adamo è partito da un grande potere e una grande ricchezza, ma non era degno di voi. Perché se fosse stato degno, non avrebbe conosciuto la morte."

86. Gesù disse, "Le volpi hanno tane e gli uccelli hanno nidi, ma gli esseri umani non hanno un posto dove stendersi e riposare."

87. Gesù disse, "Quanto è misero il corpo che dipende da un corpo, e quanto è misera l'anima che dipende da entrambi."

88. Gesù disse, "I messaggeri e i profeti verranno da voi e vi daranno ciò che vi appartiene. Voi, da parte vostra, date loro quello che avete, e dite a voi stessi, 'Quando verranno a prendere quello che gli appartiene?'"

89. Gesù disse, "Perché sciacquate l'esterno della coppa? Non capite che quello che ha creato l'interno è anche quello che ha creato l'esterno?"

90. Gesù disse, "Venite a me, perché il mio giogo è confortevole e il mio dominio è gentile, e troverete la vostra pace."

91. Gli dissero, "Dicci chi sei così che possiamo credere in te."

Lui disse loro, "Voi esaminate l'aspetto di cielo e terra, ma non siete arrivati a comprendere colui che è di fronte a voi, e non sapete come interpretare il momento attuale."

92. Gesù disse, "Cercate e troverete.

Nel passato, comunque, non vi ho rivelato le cose che allora mi chiedeste. Ora vorrei dirvele, ma voi non le chiedete più."

93. "Non date le cose sacre ai cani, perché potrebbero gettarle sullo sterco. Non gettate perle ai porci, o potrebbero [...]."

94. Gesù disse, "Colui che cerca troverà, e chi bussa entrerà."

95. Gesù disse, "Se avete denaro, non prestatelo a interesse. Piuttosto, datelo a qualcuno da cui non lo riavrete."

96. Gesù disse, "Il regno del Padre è come una donna. Prese un po’ di lievito, lo nascose nell'impasto, e ne fece grandi forme di pane. Chi ha orecchie ascolti!"

97. Gesù disse, "Il regno è come una donna che portava una giara piena di farina. Mentre camminava per una lunga strada, il manico della giara si ruppe e la farina le si sparse dietro sulla strada. Lei non lo sapeva; non si era accorta di nulla. Quando raggiunse la sua casa, posò la giara e scoprì che era vuota."

98. Gesù disse, "Il regno del Padre è come una persona che voleva uccidere un potente. Prima di uscire di casa sfoderò la spada e la infilò nel muro per provare se il suo braccio riusciva a trapassarlo. Poi uccise il potente."

99. I discepoli gli dissero, "I tuoi fratelli e tua madre sono qui fuori."

Lui disse loro, "Quelli che fanno il volere del Padre mio sono i miei fratelli e mia madre. Sono quelli che entreranno nel regno di mio Padre."

100. Mostrarono a Gesù una moneta d'oro e gli dissero, "Gli uomini dell'imperatore romano ci chiedono le tasse."

Lui disse loro, "Date all'imperatore quello che è dell'imperatore, date a Dio quello che è di Dio, e date a me quel che è mio."

101. "Chiunque non odia padre e madre come me non può essere mio discepolo, e chiunque non ama padre e madre come me non può essere mio discepolo. Poiché mia madre [...], ma la mia vera madre mi ha dato la vita."

102. Gesù disse, "Maledetti i Farisei! Sono come un cane che dorme nella mangiatoia: il cane non mangia, e non fa mangiare il bestiame."

103. Gesù disse, "Beati quelli che sanno da dove attaccheranno i ribelli. Possono organizzarsi, raccogliere le risorse imperiali, ed essere preparati prima che i ribelli arrivino."

104. Dissero a Gesù, "Vieni, oggi preghiamo, e digiuniamo."

Gesù disse, "Quale peccato ho commesso, o di quale impurità mi sono macchiato? Piuttosto, quando lo sposo lascia la camera nuziale, allora lasciate che la gente digiuni e preghi."

105. Gesù disse, "Quando farete dei due uno diventerete figli di Adamo, e quando direte 'Montagna, spostati!' si sposterà."

107. Gesù disse, "Il regno è come un pastore che aveva cento pecore. Una di loro, la più grande, si smarrì. Lui lasciò le altre novantanove e la cercò fino a trovarla. Dopo aver faticato tanto le disse, 'Mi sei più cara tu di tutte le altre novantanove.'"

108. Gesù disse, "Chi berrà dalla mia bocca diventerà come me; io stesso diventerò quella persona, e tutte le cose nascoste gli si riveleranno."

109. Gesù disse, "Il regno del Padre è come una persona che aveva un tesoro nascosto nel suo campo ma non lo sapeva. E quando morì lo lasciò a suo figlio. Il figlio non ne sapeva nulla neanche lui. Diventò proprietario del campo e lo vendette. L'acquirente andò ad arare, scoprì il tesoro, e cominciò a prestare denaro a interesse a chi gli pareva."

110. Gesù disse, "Lasciate che chi ha trovato il mondo, ed è diventato ricco, rinunci al mondo."

111. Gesù disse, "I cieli e la terra si apriranno al vostro cospetto, e chiunque è vivo per colui che vive non vedrà la morte."

Non dice Gesù, "Di quelli che hanno trovato se stessi, il mondo non è degno?"

112. Gesù disse, "Maledetta la carne che dipende dall'anima. Maledetta l'anima che dipende dalla carne."

113. I suoi discepoli gli chiesero, "Quando verrà il regno?"

"Non verrà cercandolo. Non si dirà 'Guarda, è qui!', oppure 'Guarda, è lì!' Piuttosto, il regno del Padre è sulla terra, e nessuno lo vede."

114. Simon Pietro gli disse, "Lasciate che Maria se ne vada, poichй le donne non meritano la vita."
